The latter provides the same qualifications as those obtained by American students upon graduating high school, recognised in all US states and universities worldwide. How Does the Dual Diploma Programme Work?

The American programme is carried out online, with students completing a total of 6 credits. To attain the American High School Diploma, students are not required to study the same subject twice, be it Maths, Science, or Literature, in English and Spanish. They only need to study the subjects specific to their country (language, history, culture, etc.) and the other subjects will be recognised in their diplomas.

The Dual Diploma can be started in the 3rd year of compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) at our school, with some notable exceptions where students can start later than this. Beginning as early as possible is recommended for better distribution of subjects and a lighter workload in the Baccalaureate years. If your child begins the Dual Diploma in the 4th year of ESO only, they will have access to the Summer School option before their final year in the programme, to reduce their study load afterwards.

Dual Diploma Programme Curriculum

The Dual Diploma is an interdisciplinary programme for 3rd and 4th-year ESO and Baccalaureate students. Thanks to this programme, our pupils can study the Spanish programme in Mestral School while taking this additional qualification.

The Dual Diploma at our school is usually taken in four years, which is the best option to successfully complete the programme. Students must take 6 subjects (4 compulsory and 2 elective) to obtain the American qualification.

*This subject can also be taken in the 1st year of the Baccalaureate, and thus students could complete the Dual Diploma® in just 3 years, leaving the last year of the Baccalaureate free to focus on the Spanish diploma only, as well as the Spanish university entrance exams (PBAU).

Other programme distribution options are available on a case-by-case basis, subject to discussion and approval by the school.

Dual Diploma Entrance Requirements

To access the Dual Diploma programme at Mestral, we carefully review all subjects an individual student has taken (and passed) and evaluate their level of English. Taking the Dual Diploma is a fantastic opportunity for dedicated students with strong academic records, offering them an even richer educational experience in their final years of school.

Dual Diploma Qualifications & Assessment

Students receive the same qualifications as American students when they finish high school, recognised across US states and all universities in the world. Spanish students will only have to take and pass 6 credits (4 compulsory subjects and 2 elective subjects).

The prestige of the Academic Corporation Dual Diploma® makes it possible to recognise 75% of the 24 credits required to obtain the American High School Diploma. The 18 remaining subjects will be recognised with their Spanish academic results.

What level of effort is required of students in the Dual Diploma?

The equivalent of an after-school activity. That is between 3 and 5 hours per week, depending on the initial level of English and the school year in which the student begins the programme.

Students only need to take 6 subjects to attain the American qualification. The international agreements signed by Academica, and the educational excellence of the programme make it possible to obtain the highest rate of recognition possible: 75% of the 24 credits needed to receive the American High School Diploma®

What material will students need to follow the Dual Diploma programme?

A computer and an Internet connection. It is also recommended that they have a set of earphones and a microphone. Academica will provide everything the students require to access the content and activity platforms and to communicate with teachers and students.

Are Dual Diploma students registered in the United States?

Yes. Once the application has been accepted, students are registered in the American High School Diploma just like any other American Academica student.
