Educational Philosophy

Personalised Attention

Every student is different, and we value that diversity and the complexity of each child's learning. At our school, we provide personalised attention with low student-to-teacher ratios in classrooms alongside individual student monitoring and tutoring from the early years onwards to ensure maximum success throughout their educational journey.

Multilingualism

Students at Mestral benefit from an education delivered in Spanish and English and have Catalan and German lessons from the early years. Our focus is on developing students' communication skills in different languages to increase their chances of success in a globalised world. The teaching approach for each language is based on the specific needs of students at different educational stages.

We complement language classes with exchange programmes in other schools where they can practice their language proficiency. We offer two kinds of exchange programmes - an external camp with a school in Germany for our secondary students, and the Inspired Global Exchange Programme, where students can spend time in different Inspired schools all over the world.

Our pupils can also work towards English and German language certifications offered by Cambridge ESOL and the Goethe Institut. Preparation for these certifications and exams takes place on our campus.

Technology & Digital Experience

Mestral has a strong commitment to the use of new technologies in the classroom. We have therefore embraced iPads as a transversal tool in our educational programmes for acquiring knowledge and skills across subjects. Specifically, the one-to-one project, where each student has their own iPad, is implemented from Grade 6 of Primary School and throughout secondary school, seamlessly integrating technology into the teaching and learning process. This promotes collaborative learning and allows students to be the protagonists of their education. For the other age groups (Nursery, Grades 1 to 5 of Primary, and the Baccalaureate years), the school provides an iPad cart to be used weekly in various subjects.

All our classrooms are equipped with computers, projectors, digital whiteboards, and Apple TVs. Additionally, the school has an ICT room with the latest generation of laptops and computers.

Robotics & Lego Programming

Lego Education Robotics 

As part of our commitment to integrating new technologies into the classroom, we have implemented the Lego Education Robotics project from Grades 3 to 6 of Primary School, as well as in Secondary and High School. Using educational robotics in the classroom introduces students to the world of programming, stimulates logical-mathematical and spatial intelligence, and enhances the student’s ability to pay attention and focus.

Students have access to a digital classroom with complete educational resources from LEGO®. Our dedicated teachers have been trained by LEGO ® specialists through various courses supporting the use of didactic learning materials in the classroom, deriving maximum benefits in the educational environment. This project has been truly exciting for our students, producing very positive results.

Bee-Bot 

Our learners are introduced to robotics and programming through the Bee-Bot in Nursery and the first years of Primary School. This robot is an ideal resource for teaching and demonstrating the initial stages of programming, helping our youngest students understand what algorithms are and how to use them in simple programmes."

Kiva School - Bullying Prevention Programme

Mestral has been a Kiva School since 2017. The Kiva Programme is implemented throughout our primary and secondary education to prevent and address bullying and includes emotional skills modules as well. Students explore interactive methods like role-playing bullying situations to help them empathise with victims and reduce this negative practice as a result.

This programme has been used in Finland with excellent results, raising awareness about the issue of bullying amongst students and encouraging a change in attitudes towards its victims. The goal of this programme is to eradicate this negative behaviour from our school and our community.

Jump Math Project

Our innovative JUMP Math programme, implemented from primary school through the first two years of secondary school, enhances mathematical understanding and helps students overcome barriers in this subject. JUMP Math is a teaching-learning model that enables all students to acquire a strong mathematical foundation, allowing them to confidently face future personal and professional challenges. It is based on scientific research that confirms the rigor of the curriculum and uncovers the mathematical abilities of all students.

Jump Math significantly improves math scores and performance in 85% of participating students worldwide, yielding excellent results in schools across Spain and other countries. In schools where JUMP Math was implemented, there was a significant reduction in failing grades and an increase in high grades. Both teachers and families also noted an improvement in students' attitudes towards mathematics. Additionally, by making mathematics playful and manipulative, JUMP Math fosters collective and collaborative learning.

JUMP Maths has been recognised as one of the top ten approaches with the greatest positive impact in Canada and as one of the most effective methodologies for preparing students for future educational and global challenges by WISE, a leading organisation in educational innovation. 

Progrentis Programme for Creative Thinking

The Progrentis method stimulates creative thinking through reading comprehension and is implemented at our school until 4th-year secondary (ESO). This method is based on three levels of work: decoding and interpreting, reasoning, and retention. Progress can be constantly measured, improving reading efficiency. This method enhances students' understanding of texts and their synthesis skills, leading to better results in all subjects.
