Improving Understanding of Different Sciences

In Science lessons, covering Biology, Geology, Physics, and Chemistry, we apply an inductive learning methodology to teaching and learning. This approach involves drawing general conclusions from specific data observations, promoting active exploration, critical thinking, and knowledge application to new situations. This bottom-up approach has proven to be much more enriching and effective for our students, who are achieving better results in these subjects.

Lego Robotics Project

To further prepare learners for life beyond school, Secondary students benefit from the Lego Robotics project. Our teachers are fully trained to deliver the different courses within the project. This enables students to learn coding and programming languages within the curriculum while developing their logical-mathematical and spatial intelligence, as well as enhancing their attention to detail and ability to focus.

Languages at Secondary School

Students in our Secondary School in Ibiza have five hours of English lessons per week with native-speaking teachers, following the Cambridge ESOL exam preparation curriculum for their appropriate age group. Classes focus on all communication and writing skills required to excel in these exams. The English curriculum is divided as follows:

  • 1st year ESO students are prepared for and take the PET exam.
  • 2nd and 3rd-year ESO students are prepared for and take the FCE exam.
  • 3rd and 4th-year ESO students are prepared for and take the FCE or CAE exam, depending on their level.

Our Secondary School learners practise their speaking skills with language assistants in small groups outside of class in a more comfortable and welcoming environment. This helps break down the barriers to speaking in a foreign language so learners can take their communication abilities to the next level.

Our students have three hours of German lessons a week with native-speaking teachers following the Goethe Institut curriculum. As with English, Mestral offers Secondary School learners the option of sitting official examinations and receiving different Goethe Institut certificates that accredit the levels of German they achieve.

For more information about the Cambridge ESOL and Goethe Institut examinations at our school, please visit the language certifications page.
